Xiaomi Redmi 7 Review, Specifications, User Manual / Guide

Xiaomi Redmi 7 Review with Manual / Guide - For fans of the Redmi series from Xiaomi, maybe you are a little disappointed with the Redmi 6 series. Because there are no design changes from the previous series and the chipsets used are not made by Qualcomm but MediaTek.

But in the Redmi 7 series, Xiaomi has switched back to using the Qualcomm chipset - this aspect is one of the advantages of the Redmi smartphone from the past. Also, redesigning the back of the smartphone with a more attractive color bandage. Then, what improvements does it bring? The following is a complete review of Xiaomi Redmi 7.

Design

Welcome to the notch in the form of a waterdrop, actually a bit late and at this point some people may already feel bored with the notch. The IPS panel that is carried stretches 6.26 inches HD + resolution (720 × 1520 pixels) in a 19: 9 aspect ratio and is coated with Corning Gorilla Glass 5.

The unit I am reviewing is a comet blue color, this part is even more interesting. Look more 'fresh' with a graded back, from black blue on top and light blue below. The material used is polycarbonate and the metal frame is also painted blue.

On the back there are two cameras, an LED flash, and an AI dual camera description arranged vertically. Then, there is a fingerprint sensor and Redmi by Xiaomi information at the bottom. Although the Redmi series is said to have been separated and made into a sub-brand, in world Redmi is still carried by Xiaomi.

Continue to the right, you will find the power and volume buttons. The SIM card is on the other side. At the top there is a 3.5mm audio jack, microphone, and infrared sensor so that it can control several devices such as TV, AC, and so on. Then, on the bottom side there is a microUSB port, right speaker, and left main microphone.

One more thing, Redmi 7 has used the P2i coating which can prevent this device from being damaged when it is splashed by water. This coating itself will make the water fall without sticking, but that doesn't mean Redmi 7 is waterproof.

Performance

If you already carry the "Snapdragon 632 mobile platform", then the smartphone's performance is guaranteed to be solid. In this high-tier Snapdragon 6 series, Qualcomm divides it into two, namely a series that emphasizes CPU performance and another that prioritizes power efficiency.

Snapdragon 632 is included in the second category, this chipset is built based on a 14nm fabrication process, but already uses a custom core, namely Kryo. Inside the Snapdragon 632 there is an octa-core CPU, of which four cores are Kryo 250 Gold 1.8 GHz and the other four cores are Kryo 250 Silver 1.8 GHz. Also, the Adreno 506 graphics processing (GPU).

On the AnTuTu benchmark application, Redmi 7 scored 103,812 points, PCMark got 5,880 points, 3DMark Sling Shot won 929 points, 3DMark Sling Shot Extreme - OpenGL ES 3.1 513 points and Vulkan 541 points, and Geekbench 4 single-core 1,237 points and multi -Core 4,255 points.

As apps and games on Android get more and more sophisticated, they take up a lot of storage space. In order for a smartphone to be able to carry out its duties properly, of course, it must be supported by adequate RAM capacity and internal memory.

If the use of your smartphone is quite active and you plan to use it as a daily driver for a long time - you should choose a 3GB RAM configuration and 32GB internal memory. If you choose a mediocre 2GB RAM configuration and 16GB internal memory, then your daily activities may be interrupted with problems such as full internal memory or applications suddenly exiting.

The Redmi 7 unit that I reviewed uses a 3GB RAM configuration, runs on Android 9.0 Pie with MIUI 10. As an entry-level smartphone, overall the performance of Redmi 7 is adequate for the basic needs of a smartphone. The process of opening apps, multitasking, scrolling social media, and moving the interface is fairly smooth, but something is annoying.

How come there are advertisements everywhere? Have you caught a virus? Even the cute MIUI interface becomes messy because of the advertisements. Yes, for information that Xiaomi smartphones have advertisements inserted.

These ads are integrated into MIUI and internet services from Xiaomi. It's on the far left of the home screen, sometimes appears when you're opening applications, appears in the gallery, and a lot of bloatware too.

Why? Is it because Xiaomi smartphones are cheap? Not really, now many other brands also offer cheap smartphones with fast performance.

Xiaomi has confirmed that they are not just a hardware company, but an internet company. By inserting this ad, Xiaomi will also profit many times over the years. Xiaomi doesn't plan to remove the ad, but they will try to place the ad better.

For some people, this ad may be very annoying and for others it may be okay. After all, there must be a way to disable these ads.

Cameras

In photo mode, there is an AI camera feature - where the system will identify objects and situations, then provide the appropriate settings. There are also supporting features such as HDR, filters, beautify, group selfie, and Google lens.

In video mode, Redmi 7 is capable of recording FHD video at 30 fps or 60 fps, and available time-lapse and slow-motion modes. Video codecs can also be selected, H.264 which has high compatibility or the newest generation H.265 which is able to reduce file size without sacrificing video quality.

Verdict

Redmi 7 by Xiaomi is an entry-level smartphone that can handle the basic needs of a smartphone very well. Moreover, the Snapdragon 632 chipset will be a little overwhelmed for activities like gaming.

The large 4,000 mAh battery capacity makes it possible to last all day, unfortunately without the fast charging feature. The specifications and features offered are not the best in its class. Its position is too close to the Redmi Note 7, but the difference in capabilities is very far.
