Oppo Reno4 Review: You Are Definitely Addicted | Smartphone Evolution

When a smartphone manufacturer decides to release a sequel to its product line, it usually comes with better specifications, more attractive features, and, of course, an expensive price tag. But for this one latest OPPO smartphone, only 2 starting points are packed, not the third point.

It is quite surprising indeed, when we recognize that OPPO Reno4 is in fact sold a little cheaper than the previous generation, namely OPPO Reno3 which we reviewed last April. The launch range is very close, yes, but also necessary. Given that the previous series was arguably less special, except for the camera features.

After a few days of using OPPO Reno4, I can formulate if indeed specifications on paper are not everything. The main thing is how the available software features can optimize chipsets and other hardware to share interesting features, and this is proven by OPPO through Reno4. The following is a complete discussion.

Design

As we said earlier in the discussion on OPPO Reno3, the smartphone design looks very ordinary. Nothing special, with generic camera material and the use of a waterdrop notch that is not up to date. Through OPPO Reno4, the design was changed to a very extreme, the designation of its appearance was much more stylish and premium.

Not only that, the dimensions are also made slimmer and lighter, each only 7.7mm with a weight of only 165 grams. OPPO uses heat-resistant steel sheet material for the back, with other new components that can reduce the thickness of this smartphone, and is always sturdy with the arrangement of Gorilla Glass 3.

The camera frame is made to stand out slightly, accented with the words "Innovative Quadcam", showing the superior camera expertise. This smartphone comes in 2 pattern options, each of which has an attractive personality. The Black Room has a glossy surface and the OPPO logo that is displayed umpteen, with a little hidden and a gradation impact.

Meanwhile, the Galactic Blue variant that I used this time has a matte texture, which OPPO calls the “Reno Glow” method. There is more than one arrangement of blue hues, creating a very subtle gradient, from dark blue to silver on top.

Screen

Moving to the front, the OPPO Reno4 concludes with an updated display of a dual punch-hole camera. The panel uses AMOLED with a size of 6.4 inches, and full HD + resolution which results in a pixel density of up to 409 ppi. The bottom bezel is slightly thicker, but at least the size of the punch camera is relatively small.

Not only has bonus protection installed, the glass itself has been coated with Gorilla Glass 5. Reproduction is also quite accurate, there is a vivid fashion that uses the DCI-P3 standard, as well as the standard for sRGB. When using it, I don't need to shift the temperature to a warmer one because the accuracy is pretty good.

Behind the OPPO Reno4 screen, there is a Hidden Fingerprint Unlock 3.0 sensor with a thickness of only 0.27mm. The accuracy is typical of the usual OPPO smartphone fingerprint sensors, accurate and lightning fast.

OPPO Reno4 camera

Entering one of the parts that OPPO Reno4 is most favored by, is the camera. It could be that in terms of resolution, not a very large one in its class. On the front side, there is a 32MP resolution camera with an f / 2.4 diaphragm, accompanied by a bonus sensor that has no use for snapping images (to be discussed in the features section).

On the other hand, there are 4 main camera setups. The main sensor has a 48MP resolution with a fairly large body size (1/2 inch) and an f / 1 diaphragm. 7. Accompanied by an 8MP f / 2.2 ultra wide-angle sensor, 2MP macro f / 2.4, and 2MP mono f /. 2. 4. This mono camera sensor has a meaningful position to produce special impact images and videos, newly introduced in this series.

Universally, the image quality from the rear camera is quite satisfying. Color reproduction is quite accurate, it's just that the image results from the ultra-wide camera look smoother, especially in moderate or poor lighting conditions. Normal, considering the small sensor size. And the tone seems to tend to be a little warm or greenish in certain circumstances.

Automatic macro mode is used when the captured object is very close, so the user does not need to change to a special mode. If you want to be more creative, there is a fashion expert where you can control shutter speed (1 / 8000s– 32s), ISO (100– 6400), to 108MP Ultra HD mode through image stitching (not only the 48MP mode which can be accessed from the regular image menu. ).

It doesn't have a special ultra-wide sensor, the OPPO Reno4 front camera has a wide viewing angle. It takes a few adjustments so that the face doesn't get distorted from the angle of the photo, but that way, taking videos is easier. The quality is also pretty good, it's just that in indoor lighting with bright lights it makes the image over-exposed. Hopefully this can be fixed via an application update.

I shifted to a new feature that at first I thought it was just a fun gimmick, but in fact I used it quite often. It is AI Color Portrait Fashion and Night Flare Portrait. The initial feature allows us to draw a human object against a dark white background.

Indeed, there is a uniform feature in other features such as the Google Pixel, through the color pop effect that can be applied after the image is taken. But of course, the results weren't optimal. On the other hand, to share a slick impact, you need special editing skills that take up quite a bit of time. With AI Color Portrait on OPPO Reno4, everything is practically intertwined.

This feature works both on the rear and front camera, and the results are immediately visible, especially before the picture is taken. Not only in image mode, but also in video recording. Special for the reverse camera, we can record video by showing only the red / green / blue color only, through Monochrome Video mode. The video results exceeded my expectations, where the camera was able to capture certain shades well, and with video stabilization that was still active.

Another interesting feature is the Night Flare Portrait. Not only does it produce portrait images with a smooth blurred background, this feature shares a special impact on the light rays near the object, making it look more artistic and attractive. This special feature is that shooting only wants to be maximal in evening or night lighting conditions, with an urban background or a zone close to sparkling lights.

For video recording mode, OPPO Reno4 can record up to an optimal resolution of 4K 30fps or 1080p 60fps. There's an Ultra Steady Video 3.0 mode that works with either the main or ultra-wide camera sensor. On the other hand, for a dramatic video impact, the slow-motion video feature can record up to 960fps at HD resolution (or 480fps at 1080p).

Features

OPPO Reno4 is the original OPPO smartphone that carries out the latest type of ColorOS, namely ColorOS 7. 2. Based on Android 10, the features that are carried are quite complete, like the previous type, with some bonus interesting features.

To make the front view beautiful, users can use Gravity Wallpaper, which can move as if exploring gravity. Currently, there is only one wallpaper (month), in the future OPPO plans to share bonus options.

There is also the OPPO LAB application that brings trial features to enjoy first. In it, there are 2 interesting features such as a decision spinner (helps us make decisions with certain answer options), and Ringtone Lab for editing existing ringtones, to make it more personal.

Oh yes, in the camera section, I mentioned the use of a front camera that is not used for taking pictures. The 1,2MP resolution camera is called "AON Smart Sensor". Aided by artificial intelligence, this sensor appears to ...

which is very useful as long as I use OPPO Reno4, which is a Smart Air Control feature. This feature works for applications such as YouTube, Facebook, Instagram and TikTok. By using an upward and downward hand gesture, the content will move according to the gesture. Just put the smartphone in a certain angle, and we can navigate easily without needing to touch it.

The Smart Spying Prevention feature is useful for Smartphone Evolution friends who are often located in crowds or on universal transportation. When AON Smart Sensor finds out that someone else is behind us, notifications are automatically kept secret. Increase personal, so that no one can peek at the contents of the message when the screen is on.

Hobby of lying down while using a smartphone? With Smart Rotation, the screen will not automatically turn to landscape mode as long as it is used, so there is no need to turn off the auto-rotate feature. Meanwhile, Smart Always On Display keeps the screen on as long as the user looks at the screen. This sensor works well even though the lighting is only 1 lux.

Performance

If the performance of OPPO Reno3 seems ordinary, it is different with OPPO Reno4. The increase in performance is significantly faster than the OPPO Reno3 Pro series, which is even more expensive. Using the Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G chipset, the performance is getting closer to 46% with GPU increase near 40% through the Adreno 618.

The OPPO Reno4 that appeared in the world did not come with a chipset that supports 5G. OPPO said that if 5G support is still not needed, especially on this feature class target. At least, the Snapdragon 720G is still pretty fast for everyday use, plus 8GB LPDDR4x RAM which is quite relieved for multitasking.

When used to play PUBG Mobile, there are no significant obstacles, even though there is no smooth extreme graphic option. The smartphone body also doesn't feel hot even without special cooling, especially when it's even filled with energy. OPPO claims that they have maximized the chipset as much as possible, so they can share it optimal performance, listed for the camera features above.

The memory capacity is quite large at 128GB. If this is not enough, it can still be expanded via a dedicated microSD card slot (up to 256GB).

Battery

The capacity of 4,015 mAh on OPPO Reno4 can last up to a full day, with a screen-on time of close to 5 hours, leaving close to 10-15% at night. It's listed with the always-on display, slightly camera intensive use, connected to the smartwatch via Bluetooth and near 60 minutes of wifi. This could be because the chipset was maximized with ColorOS 7.2.

An economical battery that fits perfectly with lightning charging technology. For that, OPPO presents VOOC Flash Charge 4.0 technology at OPPO Reno4. With 30 watts, making the energy content 50% takes only close to 20 minutes. Meanwhile, making a full content of 2%, while occasionally used, it takes a little over an hour.

Battery drained and away from the charger? Just calm down. ColorOS 7. 2 on OPPO Reno4 appears with Extraordinary Power Saving Fashion. When activated, we can only activate 6 applications. Through this mode, with a 5% battery you can still call for more than 1 hour, or send WhatsApp for up to 90 minutes.
