Currently, OPPO has 3 smartphone product lines. From the flagship Find series, middle class and premium Reno series, and entry-level class A series. In this post, I want to discuss the latest smartphones in the A series line.
Design and Screen
On the front, the OPPO A31 is dominated by a 6, 6 inch waterdrop screen style. Where there is a small notch at the end of the screen to hold the 8MP front camera and has a thin side bezel.
The screen resolution is still in HD + (720 × 1600 pixels), the density is close to 270 ppi, in an aspect ratio of 20: 9. The content display is still quite good, although not special.
This HD + resolution screen is arguably the very basic standard on a smartphone. On the plus side, it consumes less power and eases the burden that must be borne by the CPU and GPU which results in stable performance and the 4,230 mAh battery can last longer.
Shifting to the back, you can see the triple camera configuration in the upper left corner and not far from there is a fingerprint scanner sensor zone. Although the back and the frame are made of polycarbonate plastic or OPPO prefers to call it tempered glass composite material.
Smartphone with size 163.9 × 75. 5 × 8. 3 millimeters and a weight of 180 grams is available in a new fantasy white color option as well as a classic myestery black style. The build quality is indeed good, the construction is solid, and it feels quite premium in the palm.

Interface and Camera

For those who don't want the app drawer to be quiet, the 2-layer option can be found in the settings.
Not only smart sidebar, ColorOS type 6.1 is also equipped with several navigation modes. From standard virtual buttons, there are 3 button or button options and can be kept secret. And a gesture-based navigation mode, there is a side swipe option to go back or swipe from the bottom to the top.
Regarding photography, OPPO A31 has a total of 4 cameras consisting of 3 reverse cameras and one front camera. The main camera has 12MP resolution with an aperture of f / 1.8 and the results don't disappoint in bright light.
After that the second camera is 2MP (f / 2.4) with a 27mm macro lens and because the resolution is only 2MP so the results are not sharp. One more thing, 2 MP (f / 2.4) is also like a depth sensor. In contrast, the front camera is 8 MP (f / 2.0).
The video recorder, both front and back cameras can record 1080p 30fps video. Uniquely, OPPO A31 has been equipped with the Soloop video editing application on the OPPO A31. Soloop's working method is very simple, there are 4 main menus provided, namely trim, filters, subtitles, and music. Then, the results can be put in the aspect ratio options of 1: 1, 4: 3, 3: 4, 16: 9, and 9: 16.

Hardware
Strength is not an aspect that is prioritized by OPPO A31, the performance of this smartphone is not directly proportional to the cost. Since he still relies on the MediaTek Helio P35, the same chipset is on cheap OPPO smartphones years later; OPPO A5s.
That doesn't mean the performance of the OPPO A31 is not good, especially finding support for 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage which can still be expanded via microSD. For casual use, the performance is not bad enough to meet the basic needs of a smartphone every day.
MediaTek Helio P35 itself is a chipset made with a 12nm process. The inside packs 8 Cortex-A53 cores, of which 4 cores operate at 1.8GHz and the rest at 2. 3GHz. To compensate for this, sits the PowerVR GE8320 graphics that run at 680MHz.
For the AnTuTu benchmark application, OPPO A31 gets a score of 104.999 points. Then, PCMark received 5,657 points, 3DMark Sling Shot 785 points, and Geekbench 4 single-core 157 points and 884 multi-core points.
OPPO A31 is also equipped with a Game Space application that collects all games and gaming-related settings in one place. I tried it for playing PUBG Mobile, the graphics level was stuck on balance and medium frame rate.
Conclusion
The features and specifications of the OPPO A31 are not that prominent, they are 'just barely' for the dimensions of smartphones released in 2020. On the contrary, it could be that the strength of the OPPO brand itself is by OPPO A31 is very segmented, namely for beginners who have just switched from an old feature phone or smartphone and live in a small town or area.
