OPPO A5S Review

OPPO A5S User Manual and Reviewing - Not everyone needs a flagship or premium smartphone with elegant specifications, OPPO really dominates this market segmentation. Therefore, OPPO has the A series; an economical type of the F series that targets the mid-low segment and is worked out quite well.

Oppo A5S

After launching the OPPO A3s at the end of the following year, now OPPO has released the A5s. Like members of the A series, this feature always inherits a large battery capacity and some contemporary elements. You name it, the waterdrop screen notch design and the dual camera configuration.

Design

OPPO A5s has a screen span of 6.2 with a size of 155.9 x 75.4 x 8.2 millimeters and a weight of 170 grams. The IPS panel packs a notch waterdrop screen design, HD + resolution (720 × 1520 pixels; 271 ppi) in a 19: 9 screen ratio, and is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3.

The body has a metal frame and the back uses a tempered glass composite material like the majority of other OPPO smartphones. Uniquely, it seems that the bandage is dark and red.

The unit that I reviewed has a red pattern that looks very thick, close to a red heart or Superhero Iron Man. The design is quite stylish for the smartphone dimensions of Rp. 2 million, this red pattern is certainly able to support your lifestyle that wants to look fashionable. Meanwhile, the black complexion looks towards a more classic and neutral look.

For the completeness of the attributes, on the back there is a fingerprint sensor, and a dual camera setup and an LED flash with a touch of gold on the edges exactly like the one on the OPPO F9.

Continue to the right side there is the power button, on the other hand there is a volume button and a SIM tray which contains 3 slots, 2 for nano SIM cellular cards and another microSD. The top side is plain, speakers, microUSB port, microphone, as well as a 3.5mm audio jack assembled on the base side.

Android 8.1 Oreo with ColorOS 5. 2

Unlike the F11 series which has implemented Android 9 Pie with the latest ColorOS 6, the A5s are still stuck on the older surgical system; is Android 8.1 Oreo with ColorOS type 5.2.

Features such as swipe-up gesture navigation exist to optimize the full-screen smartphone experience. There is also a Smart Assistant feature that provides personal data as well as instant access to several uses and applications.

You can split-screen or open 2 applications side by side. It's just that, the multitasking display is very simple - not in the form of an application card but just a logo.

Not only can we use fingerprints to easily unlock smartphone locks, we can also use face unlock which works quite well in moderate light.

Dual Camera

The main camera that is entrenched behind the A5s has a resolution of 13 MP (AF) with an aperture of f / 2.2, side by side with a 2 MP camera with an aperture of f / 2.4 like a depth sensor. Meanwhile, for selfies, video calls, and face unlock activities rely on an 8 MP camera with an aperture of f / 2.0.

There are 4 main modes pinned, namely portrait for images with a bokeh effect, photos and videos equipped for 2x optical zoom, and pano. So, there is no pro or manual fashion and night fashion for shooting at night like the one in the F11 series.

Hardware and Performance

The A5s is powered by the Mediatek MT6765 Helio P35 chipset which is made on a 12nm fabrication process, meaning that it is quite effective and saves battery life. This SoC packs an octa-core configuration, which consists of quad-core 2.3 GHz Cortex-A53 and octa-core 1. 8 GHz Cortex-A53, and GPU PowerVR GE8320.

On the AnTuTu benchmark application, the A5s scored 84,082 points. Then, PCMark received 5,335 points, 3DMark Sling Shot 704 points, and Geekbench 4 single-core 922 points and multi-core 4,003 points.

For the needs of a standard smartphone every day, A5s has been tested to be able to serve my wishes quite well. Loading when opening and switching between categorized applications is easy.

Unfortunately, OPPO only has 2 GB of RAM. You have to be more selective in installing applications, so that the A5's performance doesn't run dry. Then, how about gaming?

There is a Game Space feature that wants to maximize hardware performance. I try to play PUBG Mobile, support the graphics to 'balance' quality with a 'medium' frame rate. Performance stagnates, the solution is to use graphic quality to 'smooth' and frame rate 'low'. The result is that the A5s can play PUBG Mobile with a little lag, at least the movements are not broken.

32GB of internal memory is indeed quite extensive, if your file management is good, especially if you don't need to insert a microSD. If it is still lacking, a dedicated microSD slot can be added up to a capacity of 256 GB. The battery itself has a capacity of 4230 mAh, but without fast charging.

The end is ...

OPPO A5s appears to enhance the A3s, especially the arrival of a fingerprint reader feature that makes smartphone lock unlocks more practical. Armed with 32 GB of internal memory, you can survive without needing to insert a microSD. It's just that, it needs to be emphasized that the 2GB RAM size is only good enough for the basic needs of a smartphone. OPPO might provide A5s with a 3GB RAM variant, but the costs will soar and could be less attractive.

Not only that, in the price range near Rp. 2 million, OPPO A5s is not alone. Just have to know, there are Samsung Galaxy A20, Xiaomi Redmi Note 7, Realme 3, Asus Zenfone Max M2, and others.
