In view of its reputation so far, Xiaomi is the place to turn when you are looking for a smartphone with large specifications at an affordable price. Even though the Chinese manufacturer has not formally entered the flagship variant into the country, Xiaomi's work has continued to be soft after they started producing smartphones in world. And the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 is one of the newest products.
Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 |
After being first introduced in August of the following year, Redmi Note 4 launched in the archipelago at the same time as the release of Redmi 4X. This 5.5-inch phablet is prepared like the heir to the Redmi Note 3, and like its predecessor, the Note 4 puts a hardware composition that is categorized as capable of features in its class. The difference is, Redmi Note 4 supports the 4G LTE network.
A few weeks after its release, the Xiaomi team shared me the opportunity to test the Redmi Note 4 skills firsthand. From the impression of consumption so far, the Note 4 is an upgrade with a unique approach, because manufacturers are not just 'boosting' the raw performance of the hardware. From a lay perspective, people might even think of it as a downgrade. Curious about what kind of update? Follow the full discussion at the bottom.
Review
Design & Build quality
On the appearance side, Redmi Note 4 is back with a premium design theme. I was very happy when Xiaomi agreed to lend me a dark patterned review unit. This pattern is applied to the screen frame, the thin plastic trim next to it, and also the back. That's why the silver pattern on the side of the body button, lens, fingerprint sensor and antenna line stands out. And to be honest, I really like this kind of simple industrial style.
Redmi Note 4 has a body measuring 151x76x8, 5- inches, composed of metal material with a unibody construction. The smartphone carries a symmetrical theme, in which the camera material, dual LED flash, and the fingerprint scanner sensor are placed parallel; after that a series of holes (right: speaker, left: mic) on the base side are positioned parallel, flanking the microUSB port in the middle. Only the button placement is not symmetrical. All of them are placed on the right side of the smartphone.
Xiaomi makes the edges of the back of the Redmi Note 4 curved to share a slim impression. 2. 5D glass consumption amplifies the impact, then the anodized aluminum body enhances the elegant feel. Not only is it pleasing to the eye, the smooth texture on the body also helps you grip the handset more firmly. And from my observations, the Redmi Note 4 is a little more 'humble' than the Note 3. The Mi logo is only laser engraved, it is faintly visible on the black body.
Display
The Redmi Note 4 features a 5.5-inch wide screen with 1920x1080p resolution, with a density of 401ppi, 72 percent NTSC tone range, 1,000 to 1 contrast ratio and a panel to body ratio of 72.7 percent. Based on written information, the panel technology is the same as the Note 3, but it is brighter and more efficient at presenting content on the basis of direct sunlight.
Although this product is inexpensive, the screen quality of the Note 4 is outstanding: the photos and reading are clear, then it is clear and vivid. The glossy surface does cause the panel to capture many shadows, but the viewing angle is very wide.

Misc
There is one unique skill that Xiaomi lists on the Redmi Note 4: the infrared remote. The point is to manage various home appliances. Reportedly Mi Remote is compatible with televisions, air conditioners, set-top boxes, DVD players, projectors to cameras; support the Samsung, LG, Sony, Panasonic, Sharp, Haier, and others brands. The setup process is very simple, just by confirming the type and brand of features.
Camera
Counting the megapixels on the reverse camera, Redmi Note 3 users may want to wonder why the number on the Note 4 is smaller - from 16Mp to only 13Mp. Don't be afraid, even if the resolution drops, the performance of this new phablet camera is much better. Redmi Note 4 patches the shortcomings in the Note 3 due to faded and inaccurate patterns, and shares a greater opportunity for you to get satisfying photos in dim conditions.
Performance
On paper, many people believe that using the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 system-on-chip will lead to the performance of the Redmi Note 4 being located at the base of the Note 3, both on the CPU and GPU. Although together with 8 cores, Snapdragon 625 does not have Cortex A72 cores - there are only 8 Cortex A53 with 2GHz speed and GPU Adreno506. You can observe this from the benchmark results on AnTuTu. In everyday use, their hardware performance is actually almost no different.
