Huawei Freebuds 3i |
Not many TWS earphones have premium features such as active noise cancellation (ANC), where the feature can "shut out" sounds from outside, so we can focus more on listening to music. If there are also, the costs will be very expensive, for example, like the TWS owned by Sony or Apple. Seeking to share cheap alternatives, Huawei came up with the Huawei Freebuds 3i.
Previously they had released the Freebuds 3 series, so the first ones used an open-ear design with ANC. Meanwhile, the Huawei Freebuds 3i appears more conventional, using an in-ear model with a design that is heard very often. From the price offered, under the Huawei brand, I was shaken by its quality in totality. The following is a complete discussion.
Design
As I mentioned earlier, the Huawei Freebuds 3i uses a design that is often heard on its earbuds. Yep, it's like Apple AirPods when viewed from a distance, or when it's used again. But on closer inspection, one can find direct comparison in the form of the eartype.
The design of the top is also designed in such a way that this feature is very safe when attached to the ear. Huawei shares a total of 4 eartip dimensions that can be selected, while I immediately match what has been installed in the feature. The dark variant that I use is quite easy to get dirty or imprint fingerprints, although it's not very visible.
Not only safe for prolonged use, the Huawei Freebuds 3i is also quite safe to use while exercising, aka not easily dislodged. IPX4 certification also makes it good enough to resist sweat or splashes of water. Each earbud only weighs 5.5 grams, with the case 51 grams.
the case is designed with a pill model, slim and relatively compact so that it is safe when put in a pants pocket. Unscrewing and picking up and putting the earbuds into the case feels great. Huawei distributes special magnets so there is a "click" effect when the earbuds are placed in each position. This is a selling point that deserves appreciation, because even though it appears cheaper, it always shares a premium feel.
Features
Immediately, we discuss the main selling energy of the Huawei Freebuds 3i, namely ANC or active noise cancellation. It is quite surprising that Huawei has succeeded in bringing this feature to the price range of Rp1 million, where there are still many other TWS earphones that do not have it even though it is more expensive. This feature uses 2 of the 3 microphones included in the feature, to reduce noise up to 32db.
Activating it is quite easy. When you use both earbuds, just touch and hold the touchpad on one of the earbuds, and the feature will automatically turn on. The modes themselves are as follows: ANC, “Awareness” and “off”. Certainly it won't work when we only wear one earbud.
Although I myself have no problem with the Galaxy Buds Plus that appear without ANC, when I use Freebuds 3i, I activate this feature quite often. Most importantly, in some situations such as in a room with a crowd of outside lines, a busy office atmosphere, or at an MRT station. It can actually be muted until it is almost impermeable, so that the experience of observing the music is much more optimal.
When you need to chat or watch public transportation announcements, you can activate the "awareness" feature to "enter" outside voices. Unlike Samsung, which can be tiers, Huawei does not share advanced customization. But this feature is quite safe when we need dialogue with other people without needing to remove the feature.
3 microphones from each earbud are used to reduce noise when calling. The quality itself is quite good, my voice is clear, while the crowd on the highway is not very dominant from caller reports. Huawei also presents an application for Android smartphones, namely AI Life, where you can increase the type of application and control certain shortcuts.
Battery
There is nothing special about the battery life of the Huawei Freebuds 3i, it is quite standard when compared to the Apple AirPods and is still inferior to the Galaxy Buds Plus which is indeed superior. In one use, this feature can play songs for up to 3 hours non-stop with ANC on and 50% volume. Meanwhile, when it is turned off, it can take a little longer up to 4 hours.
Meanwhile, the compact charging case can increase the total song playing time by up to 14 hours. Not yet supporting wireless charging, the port used is USB-C. But the flash energy charging feature is also absent, so that it takes approximately 2 hours to fully charge the energy.
Audio Quality
Each earbud has a fairly large driver size at 10mm. When paired with a supporting Android smartphone, the Huawei Freebuds 3i supports high-quality AAC codec for clearer sound output. Even so, when I compare the 3 features (Google Pixel 3, Poco F2 Pro, iPhone XR), this feature is slightly more optimal when connected to an iPhone.
For the quality itself, I even prefer the audio features produced by the Huawei Freebuds 3i compared to the Galaxy Buds Plus. If Samsung tends to warm, Huawei is more balanced or comprehensive. Observing songs from John Mayer, Rhye or Kings of Convenience will be more exciting, with more dominant acoustic details.
Even so, when it was used to observe songs like Strange Land from 88 Rising, both NIKI's vocals and bass were still quite dominant. Sure, the bass isn't the deepest, but it's been very good for me. So if friends have a wide taste in music with acoustics, not just pop or EDM, this is the TWS earphone that fits perfectly.
Conclusion
Huawei Freebuds 3i offers quality and features that are very complete and attractive for the cost segment. For only Rp1.3 million, friends has been able to get TWS earphones with a premium design (although similar to Apple AirPods), excellent audio quality, and the excellent active noise cancellation feature.
